Frequently asked questions
Starter help copy for OpenHome. It is not legal, financial, or real estate advice. Review and update this page before public marketing if needed.
General
What is OpenHome?
OpenHome is a New Zealand property marketplace. People can browse listings, submit seller details for review, send enquiries and offers, and use related account tools in one place.
Who is it for?
Buyers browsing properties, sellers preparing a listing, agents managing leads and listings, and OpenHome administrators operating the platform.
Is OpenHome live for real listings yet?
The site is live at openhome.house, but content and commerce may still be limited. Real public listings should only appear after seller consent and OpenHome review. Test or staging items may be labelled [TEST].
What areas does OpenHome support?
Browse categories include residential, rural, commercial, and business. Coverage grows as approved listings are published — availability depends on what is live on the site today.
Buyers
How do I browse listings?
Use the category pages — Residential, Rural, Commercial, and Business — or start from the home page. Open a listing for full details.
How do I save a listing?
Sign in, open a published listing, and use Save. Saved homes appear in My OpenHome.
How do I send an enquiry?
On a published listing, use the enquiry form. Sign in may be required. Your message goes to the listing contacts configured for that property — not every OpenHome staff inbox.
How do I make an offer?
Where offers are enabled on a listing, submit an offer through the listing page while signed in. Track status in My OpenHome. An OpenHome offer is a message through the platform — it is not legal advice and does not replace formal contract processes.
Is OpenHome legal or valuation advice?
No. OpenHome does not provide legal, financial, valuation, or real estate advice. Listing information is provided by sellers or agents and should be checked independently. See our Terms of Use.
Sellers
How do I submit a listing?
Use Create a listing under For sellers. Submissions are reviewed before they become public listings.
What information do I need?
Typical public details include address/suburb, category, price or price guide, key features, description, approved photos, and who should receive enquiries. See our seller/agent collection guidance for a full checklist.
Can OpenHome publish my private details?
Private owner details should not appear on public listing pages. Only approved public contact and property information should be published. Do not upload ID, title, or verification documents for public display.
Can I approve listing details before publishing?
Yes — you should confirm accuracy and photo permission before OpenHome publishes. If something needs changing, contact OpenHome before or after review so the public listing stays correct.
Agents
Can agents use OpenHome?
Yes. Agents can work with listings and leads once their access is set up. Public agent marketing pages and AgentsHub tools may apply depending on role.
What is AgentsHub?
AgentsHub is the signed-in area for authorised agents — for example listings, leads, and related workflows. It is not a public marketing page and is not meant for general browsing.
How are roles approved?
Agent and admin roles are approved by OpenHome administrators. Access is not granted automatically from a public form. Role changes go through admin review.
Shop, gifts, and payments
Is the shop live?
The shop may show products for browsing and testing. Treat catalog items as limited until OpenHome confirms live selling and fulfilment.
Are real payments live yet?
No. Stripe remains in test mode until live payments are explicitly approved. Do not assume real card charges or real order fulfilment are active yet.
Can I place a real paid order today?
Not for live commerce. Any checkout you see should be treated as test or staging until OpenHome announces live payments and fulfilment terms.
Privacy and safety
What information is private?
Account details, private messages, admin notes, verification materials, and unpublished submissions are not meant for public listing pages. Public pages should show only approved listing and product information.
Are title or verification documents public?
No. Title, identity, and verification documents must not be uploaded for public display. Keep them out of public listing fields and images.
Who can access admin information?
Only authorised OpenHome administrators (and agents where their role allows for related leads/listings). Ordinary visitors cannot access admin tools.
Where can I read Privacy and Terms?
See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Both are starter notices and should be reviewed before marketing launch.
